Andersonville Georgia Civil War Prison

by lorilynn

These are pictures I took of Andersonville Prison and POW Museum during our homeschool field trip. Union soldiers were held under inhuman conditions. One out of three died there.

Yes, Andersonville was a horrendous place. The uion did not have clean hands either. Chillicothe Ohio, Fort Delawaere and other Union prisons had very high prisoner death rates too.

Yes the Union was as much to blame as the south. They had ample oppertunity for prisoner exchanges and choose to ignore them. The Andersonville Guards conditions were not that much better than the prisoners, hundreds of them died as well. Hopefully this is one part of history that will not repeat itself.

We decided to put together a calendar as a project. It includes important Andersonville events.
