Less Than a Year |

The sound of your laugh,
the touch of your skin,
the joy you give me
that lives deep within.
The still of the silence,
your breath as you sleep
with one tiny, soft fist
clutching your toy sheep.
Memories of these things
are all I can hold.
The sheets of your crib
now lay so cold.
I cherish our photo,
the last one we shared,
before the SIDS took you,
when Heaven still cared.
It's true what they say,
though I think it a crutch:
What comes to us freely
costs far too much.
Your love, darling child,
never cost a penny.
Soon with these pills
I'll hold you, sweet Jenny... |
