I can beleive it, but there was one problem, the vacuum only sucked in, while smokers also breathe out, so much of this stuff may not get in the lungs. Don't get me wrong, I hate smoking more than the next guy.

Jono.B said (May 30, 2007):

yah u missed how smokers breathe out. And to be quite honest i dont really give a crap about people smoking , its not bad , its a life choice , and as long as they arent hurting anyone else i can accept that

hatesmokers said (Jun 3, 2007):

yeah i hate smokers too... and yes.. they hurt other people because other people breathe in the smoke

jea your totally right

George said (Jul 6, 2007):

Jono.B: Smokers are hurting others when they smoke. People in the vicinity of a smoker can breathe in secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoking has be shown to have the same harmful effects as direct smoking.

Some Guy said (Jul 11, 2007):

@George, actually 2nd hand smoke is shown to be MORE HARMFUL than 1st hand smoke. The reasoning behind this is that unlike 1st hand smoke, 2nd hand smoke is UNFILTERED, this makes it much more potent in comparison. Thats just my 2 cents. . .

Ben said (Jul 11, 2007):

I would just like to point out that there is no possible way that second hand smoke can be as bad as first hand. For second hand to be worse more contaminates must be present in the smoke than when it was breathed in the first time. This means that the smoke must get worse after being breathed out. For this to be true it must be taking contaminates out of the lungs of the smoker. So for second had smoke to be worse than first, first hand smoke must make you healthier.

A more reasonable way to look at this is that second hand smoke cant be as bad as first is that we can assume that the smoker is breathing in the second hand smoke just as much or more than anyone else in the vicinity and will get more in him/her than any one else. Also some guy said that "2nd hand smoke is UNFILTERED" What do you mean unfiltered? The smoker was nice enough to breath it through the filter then filter it even more with their lungs.

Jay said (Jul 15, 2007):

yes that is true! we also breath out!

Second hand smoke is not that bad said (Jul 23, 2007):

While smoking is extremely harmful to the person doing it, it is not morally wrong to smoke.

Also, second hand smoke is bad, however when compared to emissions from cars, campfires, or fossil fuel energy plants, it really is not that bad.

Whoever said second hand smoke is worse than smoking a cigarette themselves is a complete fool.

You say "2nd hand smoke is unfiltered" unless you are talking about the small amount of smoke emitted between drags, all the second hand smoke has been filtered TWICE. Once by the cigarette filter, and once by the person smoking it. Most of the bad material is deposited in the lungs of the smoker.

Don't get me wrong, smoking is a very unintelligent choice to make, but it kind of pisses me off that there are all these fear mongerer types saying 2nd hand smoke is worse than regular smoke.

Certainly a person should avoid 2nd hand smoke, but being around a few smokers in a park is not going to give you lung cancer or breathing problems. Consistently being around 2nd hand smoke for extended periods of time can be harmful, but it is ridiculous that smoking is being banned from bars. People go to bars to smoke and drink. If you dont want to be near second hand smoke, drink at home! (drinking really isn't that much better than smoking anyways)

The day I or anyone I see smokes a cigarette in that fashion is the day I'll give you any sort of credit, until then use a little logic before you do experiments

Quagmire said (Jul 23, 2007):

While that is pretty nasty, I smoke (tobacco and another "magic" herb) and will until I want to stop. Like many have said before though that's not very accurate. Legalize it!!

Sayne said (Jul 23, 2007):

Regarding 2nd-hand smoke, you guys forget that not all the smoke is inhaled, ever seen a lit cigarette? What's that pouring off it? Smoke. Nasty, unfiltered smoke. And yeah I'm a smoker and I know it's horrible, I feel like crap every day and my teeth hurt at the end of the night. But the next day I go and light up again. Good thing cigs aren't addictive right...

Gunner said (Jul 24, 2007):

Yeah, it's a good thing cigarettes aren't addictive. I can stop smoking anytime. As a matter of fact I've done that hundreds of times.

Curious said (Jul 24, 2007):

What prompts people to start smoking in the first place? And when they DO start smoking, how many cigarettes does it take for them to get addicted? I've smoked maybe a total of two in my whole life, but it was from peer pressure. Then I saw the prices of cigarettes...

No point in my comment, just a comment.

you guys are all stupid said (Jul 24, 2007):

yes this is only going in where as a smoker breathes out. But it is only passing through the filter once and then it is stored somewhere else(the dirt trap). where as a smoker will inhale the smoke leave it in the filter(lungs) for a while then exhale so smoking would actually be at least double the damage. Second hand smoke is more deadly because there is unfiltered smoke coming directly off the cigarette and filtered smoke coming out of your lungs. I hate smokers i used to smoke then i quit for my child. I never could come up with a logical reason for smoking other than I was week. Its like saying i like to stab myself because it makes me feel good.

Chris said (Jul 24, 2007):

nice man and tell me how much royaltie you get from this?

steve said (Jul 25, 2007):

The only problem is that the vacuum had constantly sucked the air in. This caused the cigarette to burn much, MUCH hotter than it normally would. The hotter the smoke is, the more tar the air can hold. Therefore, there would not be that much tar when inhaled. You can also show how much tar is left after it leaves the lungs by smoking the cigarette, and then blowing the smoke through a dust mask.

kevin said (Jul 25, 2007):

Yeah, I don't usually smoke the filter though.

Non-smoking-guy said (Jul 27, 2007):
