The only problem is that the vacuum had constantly sucked the air in. This caused the cigarette to burn much, MUCH hotter than it normally would. The hotter the smoke is, the more tar the air can hold. Therefore, there would not be that much tar when inhaled. You can also show how much tar is left after it leaves the lungs by smoking the cigarette, and then blowing the smoke through a dust mask.

yes this is only going in where as a smoker breathes out. But it is only passing through the filter once and then it is stored somewhere else(the dirt trap). where as a smoker will inhale the smoke leave it in the filter(lungs) for a while then exhale so smoking would actually be at least double the damage. Second hand smoke is more deadly because there is unfiltered smoke coming directly off the cigarette and filtered smoke coming out of your lungs. I hate smokers i used to smoke then i quit for my child. I never could come up with a logical reason for smoking other than I was week. Its like saying i like to stab myself because it makes me feel good.

What prompts people to start smoking in the first place? And when they DO start smoking, how many cigarettes does it take for them to get addicted? I've smoked maybe a total of two in my whole life, but it was from peer pressure. Then I saw the prices of cigarettes...
No point in my comment, just a comment.

Yeah, it's a good thing cigarettes aren't addictive. I can stop smoking anytime. As a matter of fact I've done that hundreds of times.

Regarding 2nd-hand smoke, you guys forget that not all the smoke is inhaled, ever seen a lit cigarette? What's that pouring off it? Smoke. Nasty, unfiltered smoke. And yeah I'm a smoker and I know it's horrible, I feel like crap every day and my teeth hurt at the end of the night. But the next day I go and light up again. Good thing cigs aren't addictive right...
